Diesel & Electric on 35mm, volumes 1 & 2

This is some of the very best quality motion pictures ever taken of the BR modernisation period, filmed on the standard cinema film format of 35mm for the highest quality. Originally released as two separate programmes on VHS cassettes, they are now combined onto just one DVD.

Volume 1

is mainly from the 1960s, showing all sorts of diesel-hauled trains and electric trains in action.

Highlights include early LSWR electrics (uniqely filmed in the 1930s) a drivers eye view from Victoria to Brighton in the1940s (not continuous) the first main line diesel electric locomotives (LMS Nos 1000 and 10001) entering service (1947/48) a wonderful colour feature of the Deltics' introduction onto the East Coast Main Line in 1962.

There are also Underground trains, 1960's AC electrics, feature items and much much more. (Black and white and colour).

Volume 2

is 100% in colour, featuring over 150 separate shots taken by British Transport Films but never actually used. The majority consists of magnificent runbys from the “pre-blue” era with further classic material from the late 1960s and the early 1970s.

Highlights include Deltics, Baby Deltics and general activity at Kings Cross in 1965 as well as on the ECML. There are Warships and Westerns at Paddington and on the GWML in the 1960s, class 31s and 37s at Colchester (by the Clacton flyover in 1962) class 40s, Peaks 47s, green DMUs, green electrics (from 3 regions), Glasgow Blue Trains, Blue Pullmans, class 50s at Shap and Beattock summits in 1973, plus various AC locos and even the odd DC loco (class 71). In all there are over 150 colourful sequences (all with genuine soundtracks).
