Shot by the major film studios from the 1930s to the 1960s, these railway scenes are unique having never been seen before.
Volume 3
Volume 3 features out-takes from the classic feature film Brief Encounter, filmed at night in 1945, various “takes” of the classic LMS local service arriving at Carnforth as well as express runbys. Out-takes from The 39 Steps are also featured showing LNER trains at Edinburgh Waverley in 1935 and from the 1958 re-make featuring action at Waverley as well as on the Forth Railway Bridge (in colour). Other highlights include: GWR arrivals and departures at Paddington (1937 & 1954) Golant Halt, the Looe branch (1954), superb runbys on the Oban line in Scotland (1948) plus the Southern at Charing Cross (c 1935) a 'guard's view of a departure from Edinburgh Waverley in colour (1958) and even some magnificent shots taken on the long-since closed Longmoor Military Railway (1960).
Volume 4
includes a series of GWR runbys at Heyford in Oxfordshire (1943), various shots from Paddington both inside and outside (1930s up to 1963 in colour), runbys on the Midland main line and departures from St Pancras (1938 uniquely including whole trains with bankers at the rear) LNER arrivals at Leicester Central (1940s) plus a wide variety of steam arrivals and departures from both Waterloo and Victoria taken from the mid 1930s to the late 1940s (many also including tank engines at the rear). A4 Sir Nigel Gresley in LNER blue livery at Nine Elms Shed and heading a subsequent railtour from Waterloo in June 1967 (colour), Merchant Navy and West Country pacifics at Waterloo and Raynes Park on their last day of steam in July 1967 (colour). There are 110 clips in part 4 alone!
